We still need volunteers to help with events, monitoring and to be firefly guides.  Let us know if you're interested.  Call 814-463-7606 or e-mail butler.peggy.s@gmail.com.
Glow ON!!!

  1. Ken witnessed 2 fireflies in the field last night. These warm nights should really help to bring on the hatch and displays. We will keep you posted.

  2. Here is a link to Kathy St John's blog on synchronous fireflies. She is a writer for WQED in Pittsburgh and wanted us to know she posted the event on her blogspot http://www.wqed.org/birdblog/2013/06/06/synchronous-fireflies/

  3. Just to clarify some questions regarding camping at the BCR for the festival: You may camp one or both nights. We are asking for a donation of $10 a night for a campsite which will cover the water, port-a-johns and showers. You may have 2 tents per site, a pop-up or van/truck. Please, NO RVS or Trailers. These may get stuck. There is no electricity, and you should be prepared to bring food for meals/snacks. There are a couple of restaurants/bars in Kellettville, but they are not open for breakfast on Saturdays.

We are hoping for good weather, but in the event of Thunderstorms, the events will be cancelled. There is no real sturdy shelter in the area for a large group of people, so plan accordingly.

  4. 4 Fireflies here last night at Chapman Dam State Park, near Warren, PA. I was so excited to see them but surprised since it was so chilly!!
